As long as it's not shot. Many parts are NLA, right?

Yes, Chad. You're right, of course. Many parts are NLA. I'm taking them on their word that the tranny is in good working order.

It's a little more involved than it looks. Usually a trans comes with the bell housing - this one HAS to have the ZF housing or it's useless. The shifter linkage is different and I think the stablizer rods are too. The drive shaft is a different length but that could be fabricated. The big deal part is the bell housing which is a sand casted part. Try and find one of those things.....
It would be good to have ALL of the parts that go with it.

Dan is right on this. The box and the linkages provide somewhat of a good start, but the bell housing and driveshaft parts are also required. W/o the driveshaft parts, you could probably have someone cut down the stock one or perhaps even use one from an A/T set-up--I heard it is shorter, but the bell housing would be the real problem in finding. Michael Egan, in his own conversion effort did some great research on what is and what is not available for these boxes. Basically you can find many of the bearings, seals, attaching harware, gaskets and other incidentals such as studs and shims since these in many cases are std DIN items, but pretty much forget about the gears, shafts and any of the castings. The Maserati Club(I believe it is in Oregon or Wash State) can provide manuals that describe assembly/disassembly of the S5-20 that was used on the Maserati's--a very close cousin of the 113 box, but has a different top linkage and driveshaft connection. Anyone interested in bidding on the box should ask the person auctioning it what happened to the bell housing and other parts--perhaps they removed to facilitate shipping not knowing they are essential conversion items.

George and Dan,
The picture shows a bell housing on the trans. Are you saying it is not the correct one? Or am I missing something? I did help Jim Villers install his 5-speed in his 230SL some years ago and I remember the bell housing being cast iron. The one in the auction seems to have an aluminum one. I remember Jim's transmission as being very, very heavy - heavier that the standard M-B 4-speed.

I didn't look at the pictures. These are cast alumnium bell housings. I really doubt they used any cast iron units - that's not a euro way of doing this.

The shifter asem.,bell housing, thrust rods , and short driveshaft are all there .
They do advise shifter bushing replacement.
I see thay have bids above the $5K, so it will go....

Like Dan--I hadn't looked at the picture either. After taking a look though, it seems that everything needed is there.
