Title: What size hex for gas tank filter?
Post by: Bob G ✝︎ on May 23, 2006, 08:36:08
Hello.
I remember someone saying that the proper hex size to remove the bottom filter from the gas tank was 27 MM Is this correct?

It is 22mm, but a 7/8" hex will work.......
Many spark plug sockets have a 7/8" hex on the top of the socket, so you can just invert an extension into the plug socket and use a ratchet or breaker bar on the other end of the extension. This will give you a 7/8 hex on the end of the extension and you most likely
already have these in your tool box................

A: You are so clever! Why didn't you tell me before I machined a 22mm hex from bar stock?

Bob,

I was successful in removing the drain plug with channel lock pliers.  In fact, it was rather easy.  You may want to try this first before rigging up something else.
