Hello;
What should I look at first to remedy the lack of idle speed at cold start? The only way I get the revs during warmup is with my foot on the accelerator pedal. It was never like that before.
As for warm start, it appears I am getting an overly rich mixture even though I do not need it. Consequently, the idle is very lumpy until I blow through the extra fuel by revving it up gently. Sam

Hello Sam,
It sounds like the "Warm Running Device" (WRD) is stuck or your injection pump or the injection pump air filter is plugged. There is a vast amount of information on this already posted. We need to know if yours is a 230SL or a latter W113. You can determine if it is working by listening for air rushing into the small injection pump air filter (see picture). Use a section of water hose as a stethoscope. You should hear air rushing in the filter when the engine is cold. As the engine warms up the air flow will stop.

If your warm up device is stuck or the injection pump air filter is plugged your injection pump will not change mixture to compensate for engine temperature. The unit can easily be taken apart cleaned and re-installed, no parts or gaskets needed.

Joe, I was wondering, my 280SE is still sucking air through the WRD at hot idle, there are no shims beneath it, so I assume it now needs washers stacked on top of the slider itself ?
What do these look like ?
I am familiar with my own 230SL's set up and had it starting/idling very well hot or cold but this one I havent really seen any pictures !
I have verified the thermostat works properly but it is not shutting the valve, so hot idel is still 1000RPM until I pince thge pipe then its fine !
Anyone any photos/drawings ?

I actually took another look at it last night and I think the rubber pipe from the air valve that connects to the metal pipe up to the CSV was drawing in air.
I havent had a chance to drive it yet but I would still like to see these washers ???
