Hello,
I have tried to search MB literature and Internet for the information about MB 230/250/280 SL gas mileage. It is a minor issue with these classic sports cars but anyway interesting information for an enthusiastic.
What is the average gas mileage (city/highway) for these cars?

Pekka - most owners report mileage around 1 liter for every 7 to 8 kilometers. I believe that equates to around 17 MPG. The mix between city / highway driving, and how fast you drive it on the highway, both have a significant influence on the mileage. If you do a search on "mileage" you will find a lot of information here.

I'd say the average range for me over the years is about:
15-17 city and 19-22 highway.

The 230SL: probably 16-17/USGal. If I had a better clue how to get everything right it would probably go up some.
The 250C (note coupe not SL) with the 2.8L M130 engine carbed gets about 16/USGal.

Milage varies greatlty with speed: 15 MPG when you push it to 20 MPG in town when you go easy. Remember, these cars are set up to burn rich. The Honda system of providing a sort of pre-combustion chamber where the fuel is rich and ignites readily and then ignites the rest of the mixture in the combustion chamber, had not been invented yet. If you want good gas milage you must install a modern engine with electronic fuel injection: It will give you 24 to 28 MPG.
