Title: 1967 250sl Califoria Coupe For Sale
Post by: n/a on May 19, 2006, 10:34:30
I have a 1967 250sl California Coupe. Needs restoration. This auto shows 33,000 kilometers on the odometer. Very few parts missing. I want to sell it and I don't know what it is worth. I had one restoration fellow look at it and he said the grill alone was worth over $2000. Appreciate any comments. This car is located in Kentucky.

California Coupes always trade at a discount to Roadsters, but they're an interesting and unique Pagoda. A good used grill is valuable, but I think 2K is way too steep. The overall price would really depend on condition, with rust being the greatest factor. Next, I would assess engine quality, then chrome, interior, etc.

There's a dealer on this message board who has gotten in the low to mid-20's for a couple of really clean examples of a 280 SL Coupe. Mind you, those were rust-free cars that needed nothing. On the other hand, I've seen a lot of average Coupes trading around 10K, give or take a couple grand.

Thanks for the comment. The car needs total restoration. It was stripped and ready to paint and was left in a bad way. Most of the chrome was in the trunk and is in very good condition. I cleaned and polished most pieces. All original I think. The car belonged to my father in law who now has alzhiemers. I cleaned the head and taillights, German bulbs. I just can't afford to restore it. I don't have enough years left.

From talking to some fellows on the forum when I first got the car. Info from the serial number reflects that there were only a few hundred of these made. Just an additional thought.
