I sell a few Pagodas a year and have noticed a variation in the tool kits. I've had some covered in smooth vinyl, some cloth and some with what looks like MB tex. The one I have now is the MB tex type and it's actually the same color as the interior, green! The last one I had was a royal blue. Any word on this?

Bob,
They were made from scraps of materials found elsewhere in the cars, so this is no surprise. There were at least two "levels" of kits for Mercedes of the era -- one had the snaps and the other had a piece of cloth that tied around it. The SLs got the former.
So was the royal blue kit the type that tied? If so, I suspect it was originally from a W 114.

It had snaps. It came with a 67 230SL, whether it was original to the car or not I can't say...

mine is a cloth with two snaps. I am looking for a mercedes logo in the tool roll but I can't find any. I am hoping this is an original but I can't say. Can someone post a photo of an original tool roll for a 280sl?
thanks

Joel, I would say yours is most likely original, even though it's missing the logo.
