Hello - - the following is  a verbatim copy of an email I got back from a Mr. Williams. I was very pleased with the quality of the plate.  Larry in CA

I have this plate in stock $40.00
+ $4.00 post & handling. There is one difference: Mine says MADE IN WESTERN GERMANY. All else being the same.

John,
if your 230 SL is an early 1964 it should not have a data plate on the fender. The data plate should be on the A-pillar and include only the first 8 digits of the chassis number plus the color codes and paint manufacturer for body and hardtop. The plate was moved to the fender (and its content and shape changed) during calender year 1964.

Data cards

Who can supply the firewall vin tag for my 1965 230SL. I have the tooling to stamp in my vin.
Also is there any tags located in or around the driver's door or door jamb.

I have a nice car with nice local history but am missing the tags on both firewall and data card tag on driver's inner fender which were lost years ago when the car was taken apart for refinshing.

I would like to recreate the #'s on the driver's inner fender data tag by decoding my car's factory data card build sheet attached.
Anyone out there gone down this road before?

.............are you sure about this Klaus ?

I never heard a reference to a change in early '64 before. My car is
Feb '64 and it has the plates on the fender and firewall !

Peter,
your (fender) Body and Paint Number Plate would approximately read as follows:

426 493 565

670 H  670 H  6
113042 12  7
- 00591  03541

The first line with the option codes is a guess based on your data card, and the dash in the fourth line is a guess; otherwise the numbers are logic.
