So, I ordered and received a new brake fluid reservoir from buds benz. the new reservoir has a small tube on the front that is facing down & is covered with a piece of black tube with a clamp.
is this the replacement reservior that supersceeded the original
or did I get the wrong part

I just replaced mine and yes the new unit looks different. I believe one can obtain the "original" look for the reservoir used on 230SL and early 250SL. But the later one with two fluid level sensors has changed. I thought of trying to get a used one, as mine leaked. Now I just accept it.
See the following thread that I started about parts that are different than original:

Hi Matt,
I also replaced mine. New unit has been re-designed.
See attached pic of my unit installed.

That res is to cover both systems. One that use a clutch res
and one that uses the front res cavity for clutch cylinder.
Some Early .043 have this set-up , eliminatimg the clutch res. Otherwise, you leave it capped. Some 230/250 sedans used this stystem.

So to me, it sounds like Matt needs an earlier reservoir but got a later one. Both JPs and Bob's would fall into the later version.
