Title: Tonneau Cover

Some time ago someone asked about a photo of a tonneau, so here is mine.

Thanks for the photo. I've never seen a tonneau before.
Was it a dealer add-on at delvery or a later addition? Looks like there are snaps on the top of the soft top compartment and on the dash but none on the doors?
Also, seems that you could open the driver section and keep the other parts protected.
What is the cover made of?

I don't know if was installed by the dealer or added later. It appears to be about the same age as the car (~1970). The PO never used it and I had to replace the zippers.
The cover is made of very heavy vinyl w/ cloth backing.
There are snaps on the soft top compartment lid and pins on the dash. I don't know the proper name for these pins, but the cover has a metal piece (about the size of a quarter) with a hole in the center. Sandwiched in the metal piece are wires that spread apart and catch on a recess in the pin.
The drivers side can be opened to allow driving with the remainder of the cover in place. The section covering the drivers seat is just rolled, from the front, and tucked behind the seat.
I have covered parking at work, so it is handy to use the tonneau. This saves wear and tear on the top and mechanism.

I am just curious, but is your car an original US version or a Euro version?? do you happen to have the card with all the option codes???

These pins are used a lot in the boating world and are called "Lift A Dot" fasteners with eyelet sockets and eyelet studs.

My car is a US version and I do have the build cards. However, I have not been able to translate all the German.

With the recent interest in California Coupes in this forum, this thread should be of interest. Stan has a great photo of his SL's tonneau cover. Even though his SL isn't a Coupe, I've seen this cover more on Coupes.
