A few days ago I was admiring my 280sl whose picture I use as the screen saver in my laptop. My wife was beside me and was commenting how obsessed I am with my pagoda. to make her feel good I said, "honey if I get additional funds and another nice pagoda comes up in the market, i'll get it for you". However before she could say anything, I immediately said, "on second thought, if another one comes up I'll get it for myself again" then I started to laugh but she knew I was not kidding.
After that conversation, I started thinking about how many pagodas i would want to own. Currently I have one white 280sl automatic. Given the choice, I would probably like to own 3 more. A silver exterior with a red interior, a red exterior with a tan interior and a light blue exterior with a tan interior.
I really don't care much for new cars. But I'd fill my garage with Pagodas. The more pagodas the merrier :)
How many would you want to own?
cheers,

I wouldn't get multiple Pagodas for color differences. I would get them for mechanical (factory and/or custom) differences. I have a 230SL w/ Automatic transmission. I would like to have an early 280SL manual 4-speed Euro model.
- more HP from the 2800cc engine (and a little more top end HP from the Euro cam)
- early model prior to any smog or fuel savings add-ons
- disk brakes all around
- probably lower the differential ratio to 3.27:1 (or something similar)
This would make for a very different Pagoda than mine, and it is differences like this that would make me get more than one (not that I have the cash anyway!).

Well... as the new owner of two beautiful Pagodas, I think I need at least 2 more! As for my wife - well yesterday I got butterflies when she commented, "I think I am confident enough to take one out for a drive!" - I really didn't know what to say. ooops (38 years together)
As for differences... I am amazed at how different each of my Pagodas is - completely different vehicles, and for the life of me I cannot decide which I like better - each has its own personality, and I LOVE driving each, but they don't drive anything like one another! hmmmmmmmmmm! Guess I better just keep looking for more, to see if I can ever find ONE that is better! It'll be alot of fun looking anyway! :D

Wow Keesing you have 2 babies :) Cool. I'm envious. You have any photos posted on your two pagodas?
Hi rodd, I'll go with your distinction. If i get one it will have some difference other than color. Mine is currently a US model that was once a Euro Model (It was federalized) Maybe I'll look for one that has a Euro headlights. I am still partial to the automatics but a 5 speed would be great :)
Cheers

Although I love my Pagoda, I think one is plenty. Although there are differences between the three models, I think it would be overkill with so many other classics to choose from. This is only an opinion of course. Now...I would really enjoy having a second SL such as a 190SL or a later 560SL. Further desires are a 250SE, 280SE, 280SE 3.5 or 300SE cab or coupe; 300SEL 6.3 sedan.

This post reminded me of my father's old eccentric boss. Back in the '70's when he was in his '80's he had five cadillacs - one for every day of the week. They were all painted different colors but all were bright colors. He had hats specially made to match the color of each car.
At time I thought he was a lunitic but having 5 pagoda's in the driveway sounds kind of nice. Now where can I get a db150 hat? Do you think GAHH sells them?

I would love an early 67 250SL to go with my late 68 250SL. Saw a white 67 5speed recently and think about it often.

Just put a posting in our "Wanted" forum and you'll probably end up with a pair soon!

I agree with JPM, there are plently of alternative classics that would complement a Pagoda well and I would have a 280SE saloon. However, if I had the funds, my first choice would be another Pagoda from that place in germany that builds them with current engines and gearboxes, one new, one old nice.

I like to have a variety of sl’s. More than one pagoda in different colour, specification or model would not be variety. I currently have a variety of Mercedes SL's, 1960 190sl, 1970 280sl, 1977 350sl and my every day car 1997 SL320. The 350sl was my every day car 19 years ago. On part exchange for the sl320 I was not offered much so I retained it. The 280sl and 190sl need restoring and were picked up as pair from USA see: www.190sl.co.uk of restoration web log/photos. Each car have their own characters, drive differently and they compliment one another.

I'd have to say I only have eyes for The Guzzi. (my car). Having a second Pagoda would seem weird after all we've been through. Now, maybe a nice red or blue 107 or R129 sibling next to it would be pretty fun.
But for now it looks like I'm a one pagoda kinda guy. I guess that makes me a "monocoque-gamist" [:0]
