Hi,
I am pondering on an idea to send my 1968 280SL to a company,SLS-Hamburg, for restoration. My car is average in condition and I do not have mechanical/car background. I need a knowledgeble and responsible restorer. I am asking members if they know that this company is reliable?
Thanks

As a parts supplier they are fantastic and their customer service top quality, but I do not know of their restoration abilities.

I'd have to agree with Rob. THey are top-of-the-line partssuppliers, but I don't know their restoration skills. On the other hand when you call them they are very knowledgeable , and they have most parts in stock...However, on their home page they show a 190sl they are restoring. Might be able to get an impression there.
If you want the ultimate Mercedes restores in Europe try Kienle (http://www.kienle.com). I don't know their prices.

Kienle are the ultimate restorers if you are willing to pay and it is not at a fixed price.
If you do not have the relevant skills to know what you want from them use an independent project manager. I have project managed several restorations 190sl, 280sl and 350sl's for clients and I find it helps in long run to prevent long term headaches, delays and unkonw costs.
