Title: 280SL Grille
Post by: n/a on April 08, 2006, 16:00:31

Does anybody know if there is a rubber seal that goes between the oval grille mouth and the body on a 280SL?  I know that my 111 280SE had such a rubber seal, and my 114 280C has one as well, but my pagoda doesn't.  If such a rubber seal is used on the 113s, I'd be grateful to know the part number.

Thanks, Charles

I do not believe there was any gasket between the grille and the body. I will double check my part book later this evening, but I am sure there will be several other replies before then.

No rubber seal AFAIK.
I did use some masking tape around the aperture before installing grill.

I did check the parts book, and there is no picture or listing for a gasket under the grill.

When I removed my grille the first time, there seemed to be a layer of tape around the inside of the chrome.  After I had the car painted, I used 3M Painter's blue masking tape.  It seems a little tougher than the regular yellow stuff, without being much thicker.  It improved my confidence when putting the grille on that new paint.
