Hey all me,
Removing the interior for covering with leather, how do the two top caps depart from around the rearview mirror center section.Ive taken down the visors and clips, but it seems stuck at the mirror area, and cant figure out how the mirror comes off.
Need to be enlightened,
Carroll

The mirror on the top of the windshield just pops of on the 280 - 71 I just gave it a good tug pulling towards you or away from the windshield on the stem and it came right off.
Good Luck

Carroll,
Ron is right...just give that sucker a tug. Make sure you pull the neck and not on the mirror itself. It's held on by a spring loaded mechanism. Under the mirror you will find two screws (one on each side) that hold the "top caps" is place.
Good Luck

Carroll,
Just a warning if you have not already popped the stem off of the bracket: it can be a real sucker to remove. The stem is held in place by a spring loaded double-sided pin that holds the assembly together (I think it is intentionally designed to allow break-away of the mirror in an accident?). In any case the spring and pins can freeze and make removal almost impossible: I got mine off only after gently prising the assembly with a plastic wedge. I found my spring frozen with rust.
Good luck

I remember removing mine to replace the glass. It was a very creepy feeling tugging on it -- but it did snap off. It goes back on a lot easier.
