Title: Which model has interchangable parts to 113?
Post by: Allen F on March 29, 2006, 13:47:23
Hi Folks,

I am sure I have seen some dialog on this, but which model sedan shares the same rear end (and other parts) with the 113?  Is it the 108?  I have a chance to buy a parts car that may have the higher rear end (and who knows what else) that could be of use in the future to me...

Any help is appreciated!

The 108 rear will fit but I'm pretty sure only the V8's have the 3.27 ratio. I believe 6 cyl sedans have a 3.96.

Hello Allen,
Mercedes sedans of the early 60s to the mid 70s share some Pagoda parts. Things like wheel covers, wheels, steering wheels, interior handles and knobs most suspension and engine parts will change over on a lot of models.  Specifically the Mercecdes "Finback" sedans, the Mercedes W108 chasis sedans and the common W114 chasis sedan share some parts. and mechanical systems. Pete Lesler has a parts intecange list, that he handed out at the last tech session.

As far as differentials, The W108 sedans and W111 sedans (finbacks) shared the early swing axle differential. Early cars had drum brakes in the rear as did the pagoda models. 4.08, 3.96, 3.75, 3.69 (non US cars),  3.47 (scarse), 3.27.

The 3.47 and 3.27 were both from W108 V-8 sedans and will interchange easily. Differentials from air suspension Mercedes will not change over.

How will a different rear end effect the performance of my 230?  Also, which one would be best for gas milage, speed, etc.   Is it worth the time and money to make a change like this?

The list is on the forum
http://www.sl113.com/forums/index.php?topic=1830,interchange

or if the link does not work, go to the search function and use "part interchange" in the General Discussion area, and search the whole message.

Thanks Jonny

I just got me a 108 and now I have a pretty good idea of what parts to save for a rainy day....
