Title: Blacklick video
Post by: Dick M on March 10, 2006, 00:07:18
I said I would finish editing the 05 Blacklick video before Oct and sure enough I have.... I never said what year.

I'm including the just edited video from 05 Backlick along with the W113 Promo video from 03 and Jim "Villers Springs and Shocks" presentation on one DVD.

If you would like a copy send me your mailing address.

I just sent my info to Dick.
In case you need a little incentive. Dick did a first class job on the video he did for the session in 2003 and it was dandy!

Hi Dick,
I'd love one. However, if there is a limit to how many you are doing, by all means let those who participated have first dibs. I could always "borrow" yours -- and we can save postage either way (as soon as things thaw out (again!).

Joe you are the star so of course you are on the list... James your's will be hand dellivered.

The list is growing and I'm waiting to see if number of requests is beyond my one at time production capability.  If anyone know anything about duplication of DVDs please chime in... I can use the guidance.

Hi Achim,
I'm pleased to send the DVD.  If your computer has a DVD drive and WIndows MediaPlayer you can play the DVD.  It plays best however on a home DVD player... not sure if Euro(PAL)versions players are an issue... maybe someone here can help out.

Send me your mailing address and I'll put it on the list.

In Europe, you will need a DVD player that is region code free. You can get one for about 50-60 euros these days. PC-DVD players sometimes allow you to play both region format DVD's for a couple of times before you are obliged to make a permanent selection of one of the region code formats.

By the way, the Pagoda Group (our club here) commits to reimbursing you (Dick and Ray) for your out-of-pocket expenses in producing and mailing out all of these DVD's. After all it includes promotional material for the club. Thanks for all the work going into this production!

Cees (and Detlef),

Commercial DVDs are often region-encoded. This "feature" was added to DVDs at the insistence of the movie studios, who wanted to control when movies were available in various geographies. (We [the original DVD Technical Working Group, of which I was a member] had to agree to region encoding in players in order for the studios to agree to publish movies on DVD.)

I sincerely doubt that the DVDs produced by Dick and Ray would have any region codes on them.

-David Pease
'66 French 230SL

P.S. Region encoding is really just one character on the disk that identifieds the region (there are 6 of them) that the disk is allowed to play in.  There is no real difference in encoding.

P.P.S. There is also the issue of PAL versus NTSC - perhaps that is what you were thinking of?

Hey Dick M,

Did you receive my email last week?

As I don't have a DVD player for the TV, will it play on the DVD player on the PC?

PAL system in Australia, is that important if viewed on the PC monitor?

Hi Bob..
Yes I have your email but have not responded to them individually.  We now have about 40 requests.
The DVD should play on most PCs but looks better on a DVD player.  I don't think PAL is an issue on your PC playback but someone who knows may want to respond.

Hi guys, I've been up to my ears in a documentary but will be doing the DVD duplications this week.  Region coding will not be a problem on the discs we produce.  The original video is NTSC* but your computer should handle it just fine.  We are going to spruce up the label a bit and burn the copies Wednesday.

I have only had the opportunity to view the overview piece that Dick did, (I presume that is you doing the voice over) and he did a good job with the storytelling.  I am looking forward to the session on springs and shocks as that is my next big project.  Once again we see the talent and interest of our devoted fellow owners paying off for all of us. :D

(*NTSC is the American standard and stands for "Never Twice Same Color"   )

All of the discs have been mailed. Some in the US will arrive today, (Friday 3/24)the rest very soon.  The USPS promises European delivery in appx. 5 days, Australia may take a bit longer.  In all we mailed out 55 DVDs.

Dick and I have discussed collaborating on a 2007 Blacklick video.  I hope that works out. In the mean time, this one will be helpful for anyone preparing to do springs or shocks.  I am about to do both.

Dick I have my copy of video. Thanks it is really nice that you put the piece togather. It represents a good overview of what we do.

In the spirit of the evening I decided to drink and let Mike H. drive my car, never thought that I would let someone I dont really know drive my car!

Navigation challenged I am not. When we offered you and your driver to take the lead I seem to remember you both to decline. It was good we stopped as both Tom and I needed fuel. I did not have enough fuel to make it to Rodds and back to hotel by Joe's.

When we got back to the hotel I found the map Rodd made for us to Rodds home blew under my front seat. As it turned out the map was marked incorrectly for trip to or trip back home I don't remember.
Thank god for cell phones. As I said I was not driving. I was drinking.

Thank you for the film it was a lot of work I am sure. Like I told you in Ohio I thought the first piece you did with your car roaring out of your driveway was great I would listen to it just to hear a Pagoda running on a cold Chicago night.

Best Regards
Ernie the non navigationally challenged.

Hi Ernie..
I didn't know you drank...
The two days give us a time when we can unconditionally become very good friends because we so enjoy this common interest.  We see the same kind of camaraderie on the website but it is intensified when we get together face to face, so to speak. That's why I enjoy doing these little videos.. Everyone should take the opportunity to participate in these sessions.. experience this part of the club... at least through the video.
As you might have guessed, it is well into the cocktail hour here in Nevada City..

DVD-R discs aren't perfect so it's possible that David's might be bad.  Generally, older Sony and Toshiba players are not real good with DVD-R discs.  Later players, of all makes, have thinner lasers and better control of the beam.

The video is in NTSC as it was produced in the US.  If your player is PAL only, (Or SECAM for the FSU) that will be a problem.  If any of you have trouble with playback, try it on a DVD-ROM equipped computer or another DVD player.  If it's still is an issue, let Dick or me know.

Next time we could do a glass master and press 1,000 discs to avoid all these problems.  But the we couldn't do them free.

The good news is that everyone seems to be enjoying the show.  I have undertaken the spring upgrade myself and Jim Villers input has been invaluable.  After the first install, the ride height is too high but the improvement in handling is striking.

Thanks for the video :) It is great . I love seeing so many pagodas driving by. What an excellent clip.. and yes the sound of the pagodas are music to the ears. The Blacklick and Viller's spring and shock presentation was also very informative.

It was also great that I can now put some faces to the names I often see in the forum.

I wanted to get your permission, Dick ,to reproduce the VCd so I can pass them out to some pagoda owners here in the Philippines and hopefully have them join the club as well.
