Hello, does anyone know what the numbers on the tag that is on the cold start valve mean. I have two units(on the bench not on the car) & one says 2/3 & the other one says 2/4?

The only thing I can think of is that there are different model CSVs.
The one on a friends 280sl is different to the one on my 250sl.
This came to light when he was having trouble with his leaking 280sl CSV. The interior used a ball valve while the earlier unit uses the typical system shown in the pic attached. Sorry about the pic quality but it had to be reduced and it lost definition.
A new CSV was quoted at AUD$800.00. He bought a used but good unit for AUD $100.00 plus freight.

Thanks for your time! I can't find anything either & I even called M.B.U.S.A. & they had no idea either.

The BOSCH parts list for the 230 SL lists "Starting Valve 0 437 900 004 EP/EV 2/3". Don't have the lists for 250 SL and 280 SL.

Hello GatorJaw the coldstart valve I took off of my parts car...
( a late 250SL ) is stamped Bosch EP/EV 2/4
Also I found a brand new one along with many other NOS parts in the trunk. Also stamped EP/EV 2/4 I was thinking of keeping both for spare but I think I might ebay one if you need one let me know. They come up on ebay from time to time. A member of our local group Scott K. rebuilt his. Scott told me that the spring (about the size found in a ball point pen) that you see in the picture can get eaten up over time by the gasoline. His was so he just replaced the spring with one from the hardware store and his valve then worked. The spring pushes on a little ball check valve that makes a loud click when you fire your car up. Also sometimes the nozzle can get carbon on it and not fog fuel properly. Maybe someone knows but I think the Mercedes fuel injected sedans of the day have the same exact valve setup. A good boneyard pick part.
Good luck
Best Regards

For what its worth, mine is a 2/4. However, my records show this one replaced the original in 1984 -- (as an attempt to tackle an ongoing difficult cold start problem.) We paid $150.68. Should have bought two!!

Thanks, but I have two. I bought one from Euro Parts for $30.00 (used), cleaned it up & it seems to running fine.My ldle kept creeping up & I thought that the CSV was leaking thru causing the problem.

Hey Ernie,
The Ball can also be out of shape or marked/grooved by the spring or the surface it mates to. Then if it rotates it will leak.
I have seen FI sedans in the wreckers with the same type CSV.

Hey Gator. I meant I should have bought two -- mine was a new CSV from MB for 150. I think they are about 800 now, aren't they?
