Hi,
I'm trying to help a friend decipher the numbers on his '71 280SL, and I stumbled on this forum. I found some of the information I was looking for on the database section, but still have a few unsolved mysteries. I am attaching images of the door tag, the data tag on the driver-side fender apron, and a pic of the engine stamping # in the hopes of discovering what everything means. All I can decode is the paint code of silver gray metallic with a metallic blue hardtop. The car is currently light blue, with dark blue interior which appears to be original. it has a blue hardtop and soft top. Can anyone assist with decoding the rest of the info? How do I validate the car's originality? Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

Trying to get 2 other pics uploaded...sorry! I hope these are ledgible...the door tag reads 113 044 12 022236 with a date stamp of 11/70. What I can make out on the engine stamp # is 130-986(?)-12-0???????????? That's all I could get. How do I confirm the originality of the motor? My questions on the fender tag concern the single digit letter and numeric figures...180 G, 387 H, 6, and the last line at the bottom-M 60292 06728...
Again, please excuse my ignorance, and thanks for the help.

249 - heated rear window in hardtop (all the late-model US cars have that)
426 - power steering with auto floor shift (there was no column shift, so no surprise there)
491 - US version
503 - left outside mirror (mandated by DOT)
513 - Becker Grand Prix stereo radio (nice!)
Finally, that lone "6" indicates it was delivered to the US, but we know that was likely from option code 491.
Basically, this is a classic US-spec SL finished in silver (180) with metallic blue (387) hubcaps and hardtop.
