Bob Possel mentioned that it is the "exhaust fumes control". Does that refer longer exhaust tips extending past the bumper or something off the exhuast manifold? Thanks, DZ

The car was subjected to exhaust emission testing on the dynamometer. Such cars had up to 50 miles on the odometer before they reached the dealer. No customer option, nothing visible on the car.

Klaus, why was this done? Was it for 1971 U.S. West Coast emissions requirements or was it done just to test factory specs? Thanks, DZ

Both. Quality control, monitor deviations in production, 2% random test required on California versions, etc.
