I caught a glimpse of the last few seconds of the new MB SL TV spot on TV during last nights' Emmy show and saw a 280sl together with the new SL. There were two other SL there but I did not see what model they are. Did anyone see the spot and knew if the Pogoda is included?

Is it the one where you see one of their first race cars and ends up with the entire Sl line including the SLR?

Yes, I think that is the one.

I tried to pick out the Pagoda but the commecial goes by so quickly that I was unable to spot it.
The spot aired again on NBC NY at aprox 10:30 PM but I only caught the tail end of it.

I've seen it a couple of times. It clearly shows a silver a 300SL Gullwing, but I did not see a Pagoda.

I'll have to look for that spot. Haven't seen that one. It's nice to know that the Pagoda SL is getting more and more respect at the mother ship. You can always tell which ones are the "darlings" by seeing which ones they drag out for commercials, posters, ads, press events, etc.
Have you seen this one? There's no Pagoda in it, but it's pleasant to watch if you like Mercedes:

Doug,
I don't know why they don't show spots like that here in the USA? They could advertise with so much more class.

Doug, thanks for posting the commercial. It's a very passionate piece. Too bad we don't see more of this here in the US as Rodd suggested.

I have a Merc commercial which starts with a 190SL and a woman in Hollywood, it turns into a 300sl a 280sl, a 107 over a 80'ies sl into the current SL. The music starts 50'ies like and follows the periods of the cars.
Pretty cool
It's a 5,5MB quicktime movie if anyone is interested I can send it to anyone of you.
Best,
Ulrik

Mulrik,
Someone posted the commercial you described at this link:

I always thought it was ridiculous that they show 6 different cars, then introduce the latest one as the "5th-generation SL." Someone really didn't think that one through.....
Well, you know the old saying: There are 3 kinds of people -- people who know how to count and people who don't. :)

I think you will find they consider the 121/198 chassis as one generation as they were both produced at the same time period [ end of production for both chassis was 1963]
So..
1- 121/198
2-113
3-107
4-129
5-230

No question that's what they had in mind, Arthur. But it's ridiculous that they actually think anyone would understand that. You can't write a commercial like that and expect people to get it. That's just plain bad advertising copy.
Also, they should've begun the spot with a gullwing. To begin the spot with a 190 SL is also just plain wrong.
-
Well,
I think they wanted to start the ad off with a good looking, sun glass sporting female... who, at that time, would more likely be driving/sporting around in a 190SL..
Notice the 121/198 share footage back/forth of the ad opening..
also, I think they were corrct giving preference to the 190 cuzzzz I own one , so it's just plain Right they do so... :) :)
The ad is also geared to SL fans, and I think you underestimate their knowledge of chassis evolvement.
I give it a 9 cuz I like the beat and it's easy to dance to.....
