John,

Are you talking about a Mercedes battery or a vintage battery? And do you have any pix you can share?

If I understood Pete correctly during his presentation at Joe Alexander's tech session two weeks ago, if something is NLA then whatever Mercedes officially offers as a replacement will be considered "OK" at a concourse judging, i.e. no points will be detracted. So this will likely be the modern Mercedes battery.

The battery is a Mercedes Benz official replacement for the original battery, it is shipped with dry cells (you must buy acid at a NAPA store to fill it up).

I will post later next week pictures.

Hello John,

While posting the pics of your battery why not post the pics of nthe rest of your car. Can you put it on a lift and take pics of the underside, it is nicer than the upperside of most cars!

Unfortunately, the battery your dealer will sell you today is white, whereas the originals way back when were black. Here's a photo of one that I purchased a couple of years back from my local dealer:(http://home.nyc.rr.com/mrdjsk/P6100013.JPG)

John, please show us your car. Sounds spectacular!

Yes,  That is correct as the original tar top battery is no longer available.  I have an oem tar top battery which I bought in 1983, it is made by Hoppecke and has the MB sticker on it.  One of these days I will get it rebuilt as tar top batteries can be disassembled and have new cells installed.  Some small companies in Germany may be reprodcing tar top batteries, but I have never found one to fit.  I belive the battery size for the w113 cars is unique to that model.

The whte plastic battery p/n 003-541-3301 has 55ah cold crank rating.  The list price may have been reduced since I last checked.   This metric size battery is the only one we judges recognize as correct for the W113 cars as it fits the hold downs and the rectangular base perfecttly.  Most other USA size 24F batteries are a bit too short.

If I am going to purchase a new battery (US Made), what size best fits the battery tray and hold-down??
