Perhaps you can obtain a wiring diagram by buying a manual mentioned in one of these threads, or by receiving a file directly from another member.

Here are some good publications for the W113:

Is this provided in the Owner's Manual for the 280? It seems to be in the original one for 230.

Hello Aeneas,

USA cars as of about 1969 did not have the constant speed solenoid wired unless the car had Air Conditioning. In fact no wires were run to it at all. Prior to 1969 cars with automatic transmissions had the solenoid wired and working.

As far as the kick down, make sure that the fuses are good, make sure the three position solenoid or its linkage are not stuck, test the kickdown switch under the gas pedal also make sure its plug connection is not corroded.

ja17    u could be correct. i have looked all over engine bay and cannot find any loose or cut wiring. car has air-con. the sol is in position.  so what keeps engine at no stall speed when stationery with air con operating. There must be a wiring diagram for the autubox. is'nt a sol that is operated by the kick down. cannot see a sol in my drawings. thanks for help.

The 250/280 sl owners manual I have does not show as it does not even have autobox. this is a new manual I just bought. I did get a drawing from MB Germany and it shows solenoid wired to autobox connections but it does not give in which harness ,numbers, colours. see jb above I think he could be correct. Its is amazing that one can't get a complete set of all elect drawing inc all mods, numbers, wire colours harnesse's.

Aeneas - Achim Ahlert (member here) made up a color-coded diagram for the 280 SL himself that is more comprehensive than what can be found in manuals. If you email me your address, I will be glad to send you a (color) photocopy.

Rodd and Cees,

Is it possible for this wiring diagram to be hosted somewhere on this site?  I think it would be a valuable resource for anyone trouble shooting electrical problems.

Thanks,

I suppose this could be done, I will (assuming it's OK with Achim) see about scanning it and offering it to the webmeisters who can post larger files.
