Title: Vacuum metalizing reflectors
Post by: 66andBlue on December 22, 2005, 20:54:00
In a previous thread about tail lights Tom [TA250SL] mentions something about vacuum metalizing the reflector part of the tail light

Since one of the reflectors in my 230Sl is as dull as lead I am wondering whether anyone else has experience with this process and the costs.  Is this is an economical way of restoring or is it cheaper to buy the part new from Pagodenteil.de or sls-hh.de for about $70 plus shipping?

I think I paid about $40 for refinishing the pair 3 years ago.  There may be firms advertising in Hemmings Motor News, but I had my parts added to those of a parts manufacturer to get the best price from a local vacuum metalizer.
