As a new member (and new owner of a '71 280 sl) of the forum I am amazed how much information is being shared in such a short period of time. I had a thought concerning my planning a trip to Australia in the coming year or so. Would there be members down under who would be interested in a house swap with someone in Santa Cruz, Ca. (great surf spot!) which could possibly include the use of each other's cars? Anyone have any experience with this type of thing? I know there would be potential LHD/RHD issues as well as trusting someone with a valuable car, I am just curious if anyone has tried this.

Good One ... I think you would have better luck over at the Ford Escort group.
The only guys that get to drive these 113s other than the owners are their mechanics... :) :)... [ maybe a Wife , but not mine ]

I'd never let my mechanic drive my car. I don't even let a mechanic work on it. My wife used to drive the 230SL back in the '70s every day. It had gearshift. When I got this '69 280SL, I took her to a deserted parking lot: A K-Mart which had closed. She had problems with the automatic: Hit the brake, thought it was the clutch. She does not want to drive it anymore and I don't argue with her. But I have a 40 ft. Swan at the moorage I'd be willing to swap usage of.

Now the Swan 40' got my attention. In a past life I skippered a Swan 43' throughout the lesser Antilies. A tough job but someone had to... I content myself w/ my 25' custom wooden sloop on Kauai now.
come on over.
