Pimp my Pagoda, baby! Must be that special edition with the optional trunk carpet code on the data card.
All kidding aside, I think it looks good, and I bet it really cuts down on the ride noise.

Yeah Hauser, when you say fully carpeted you ain't kiddin.
Although not necessarily correct, [:0] I did choose to have a trunk mat made from the same square weave carpet used on the interior of my 280sl. GAHH has a template for this and I am pleased with the decision to do it. Every (and I say this without much hesitation)original trunk floor has at least some surface rust due to the rubber mat that came standard in these cars and its inherent act of trapping moisture/condensation.
The edge bound carpet mat (its actually two pieces due to the spare) simply lies flat covering the floor of the trunk only without fasteners or adhesives. Dresses up the trunk nicely and does not alter the ability to throw the rubber mat in if you feel the need for one of those 100 point days. ;)

I agree with you Tom, this must be a special place for the naughty kids. But without the worries of scrapes and cuts, only have to contend with the carpet burns and static cling.
Wonder what owners with the SL's did with misbehaving kids? This is one solution.

You can find GAHH at http://www.gahhinc.com/
They do a pretty nice job with carpet sets, seats, soft tops, etc.

I'm not an absolute purist, but that is garish.
Because the inside of the trunk is black, (or near black), I chose to cover the floor with a black carpet. I paid $150 for a 2-piece set from Bud's Benz. It dropped right in and fits perfectly. It looks great, and probably does quiet the ride a tiny bit.

I like the red color matching air conditioner! And the bumper guard delete. I am not a fan of black paint underhood on inner fender.

Notsofast Isofast, ( :D sorry, could not resist)
If the carpet in the trunk and cockpit were black, would you feel differently? I think the red carpet is what gets ones attention.
I am both a purist and pragmatist. I own cars that range from 98% original to slightly modified to heavily modified. For a daily driver, I find trunk carpeting appealing and practical-and it can always be removed.
Best,

Good morning folks. For those who may have seen the photos of the Idaho Pagoda it might not be too surprising to read that I'm in agreement with Tom's sentiment about making some pragmatic alterations. If we avoid fundamental cutting of metal those individualizing enhancements can always be returned to original. In my way of thinking it just ain't that big of a deal. And in the meantime my wife & I are greatly enjoying a 35-year old car that really is approaching the comfort and reliability of a brand new machine...with some aspects of safety and performance also on the way up.
BTW, a little activity we may take on before too long is to carefully remove the original MFI, properly stow it away for safe keeping, then make a few mods which I rather suspect might deliver a slightly better power-to-weight ratio than that of a new SL500. In my book, it would be pure fun...while having the comfort of knowing that this, and all the other individualized/enhanced aspects of the car, could be taken back to the original configuration if & when that mood strikes.
Except perhaps for that firewall pad I've already changed out...Har!

Tom,
Ha ha, that's funny. How can you describe your car as a 35-year old? It is a new car! I guess there might be some 35-year old sheet metal on it. Anything else?
:D (This is not a comment on your philosophy on how to enjoy a car, the statement just seemed to strike my funny bone.) :D

Rodd -- Yup, you're correct about the body panels being 100% original. Oh, and the seat frames are too...just can't find better quality ones, but if I could... ;)
