Title: door repair (inside mechanism)
Post by: n/a on June 23, 2003, 12:44:51
Hello,

My first post will be a search for technical assistance...

Doing a little work on my W113 yesterday, polishing the chromes, the piece that limits opening of the door simply fell off!!![:0]

When you open the door, there are 2 pieces that prevent the door from opening completely; one is a hook attached to the main frame, the other one holds to that hook (from inside the door, just below the large chrome piece on the tranche [edge] of the door) and enables to keep the door half open or fully open.
I was just wondering if any one had that problem before and how to refix that piece to the door and hook.

There are repair sets for this assembly - so apparently, they can break as you found out. I have seen these on Ebay, but you can better check with one of the "regular" parts suppliers (you can check on the homepage -upper left hand corner of this page- under "databases":

the part you are talking about is called a door check. just replaced one myself. alot easier (and cheaper) to find used than new a couple of ideas for sources: Tri-star Pete in Tempe (480) 829-7826 has lots of rust-free 113 body parts in stock. Also there's a place in Australia that carries both the door checks and the spindle repair kits called MB Classic. email them at info@mbclassic.com.au. the part can be a bit of a bear to install due to a heaby gauge tension spring. might be worth the $15-$20 to have sombody drop it in for you.

Thank you Fred.
that is really helpfull.
The car is actually being checked by a merc specialist who seems pretty reasonnable.
Pardon my English vocabulary, but even if I live in the US, I am French...Took me a few years to get some vocabulary in my professionnal activity, should take me some time to get the mechanical one too!!!!
