What color should the rocker panel be on a 1970 280sl with signal red exterior paint. Currently my car has the gravel guard flat black, but the car is scheduled to be repainted in the spring, but I want to get the correct paint codes and formulations for the painter.
Cheers,
Terence

It is the correct color. Some people call it black, but I believe it's a very dark gray. Do a Search on "schutz" or "rocker panel color".

I think you are exactly correct. My restorer pointed this out last week. I always just assumed it was black, but he said it's not quite black, more a dark charcoal. He is improvising on the color.

Correct color in German is called 'Tiefdunkelgrau' which translates into something like 'deep-dark-gray'. Same color should be on some other parts, like inside trunk lid.

:?: Did the color of the rocker change over the years?
Attached is a pic from a '68 brochure. This picture shows the rocker painted the color of the car.
