Went for an expensive drive yesterday, got a quarter-sized ding in the windshield from a rock. My windshield is the original clear (no tint), can I replace with a tinted one and stay correct? Any suggestions on U.S. source (Binswanger Glass quoted $450 plus installation).
Thanks,
g

Ouch Greg. Been there myself. Fortunately my hit was smaller and just below my line of sight. Still there and unless I go for a major resto it will remain a battle scar...

Greg,
Depending on how original you want to stay, the original glass was mfg. by Sekurit. I don't know if you can get glass with their name on it anymore?
Our database will show several options in glass choices were originally avaliable, but I don't know when these would have started being available. Is that a concern for your early 230?

I suspect these windshields are available thro your local dealer. This based on my getting a new one for my '59 220S a few years ago. The dealer found one (!) in the US & had it shipped from CA to VA in just a few days with the shipping included @ no extra cost. Otherwise, it would have come from Germany, again, shipping included. This is very useful since buying one from Caliber, for instance, & having it shipped cross country with insurance would be quite expensive. I recall the part price as less than that mentioned & the dealer also honored a MBCA 10% discount-which paid my annual MBCA dues for that year! I picked it up at the dealer's parts department in my PU, took it home (85mi.) & had it installed by a local auto glass shop. I also had to buy a new seal of course . -JP-
