Title: Pagoda in Era ads
Post by: TA250SL on November 06, 2005, 02:59:13
Just discovered some interesting era ads for Johnson Wax with Sterling Moss and a Pagoda, from 1967 and 1968 Road and Track and Car and Driver magazines.

Nice.
Kind of sad in a way, that a racing legend like Stirling Moss did advertorials like this ("If J/Wax Kit doesn't give you a shine as good as any paste wax and a lot easier, I'll turn in my trophies"). J/Wax Kit?

Celebrity product endorsements are no new thing!  Remember F-1 drivers didn't make a ton of money back in those days, and Moss was at the close of his active racing career.  Jackie Stewart and many other surviving racing legends owe their comfortable retirements to lending the prestige of their names to all sorts of products and services.
I think that the car featured in these J-Wax Kit ads may have been his own!  If so, this very well could have been the 250SL that he turned into a "280SL" prior to the official factory version.
