It looks like the second rally car has the (W123) aluminum disc wheels.

There is a good write up in Classic & Sportscar about a 230 SL rally car. It has been extensively modified and its a pretty good read. The same car has been the subject of a more intense article in the UK Mercedes Benz Club Gazette. This details the modifications a bit more clearly !

I will ask them for permission to scan and reproduce if anyone is interested !
