Title: Plastic cleaner WOW
Post by: hauser on November 03, 2005, 23:49:56
I just tried a couple of the Meguires products on my soft top window.  The results are incredible!  Since my top is relatively new (less than a year old) my window developed an anoying haze.

I tried the Meguires Plastic Cleaner followed by their Plastic Detailer.  The results are incredible!  I couldn't find this product locally so I got it on line from www.superiorcarcare.net

I used Meguiar's plastic cleaner as well on my window, and Peter van Es used the same stuff on his. His in particular had become very hazy, and (with some effort mind you) it came out almost like new. Mine had some light scratches that disappeared. Worth having a small bottle of the stuff to maintain your window once a year or two.

I'm going to buy some of this product and give it a try before throwing in the towel on this softtop.

Mine didn't require much effort at all, possibly because its relatively new.  But it was very hazy and dull looking.  I believe Meguires makes three different products for the clear plastic.  The two I mentioned in my first post and the other being Clear Plastic Polish.

The polish claims it also works on: clear plastic boat windows, motorcycle windscreens, CD's, eyeglasses, instrument panels, skylights and aquariums.  Sorry, I just went ahead and listed all its uses. :)   At least you can get more uses than just your plastic window.

This product does work use a lint free rag and have a bunch handy. Then throw them away when you are done. Rags get hard and abrasive when they dry. The product will stain your top material or interior[:0] I use blue three m painters masking tape, and apply with caution. I used this on my old top and found out the hard way. It does a very nice job when applied correctly. My wife is a drapery manufacturer so I had her make me a fluffy neck roll pillow to keep the wrinkles from my new top window it also helps window from rubbing itself when top is stowed. I think I will remove soft top this winter from compartment to reduce shrinkage and rub wear, while hard top is on. ;)

I use Plexus; plastic cleaner, protectant, and polish.  Works good on all plastics.  Most any of these products including Meguires can be purchased at any boating supply location.

I concur with using the painter's tape on the cloth top adjacent to the window.  There is nothing so difficult to remove from your cloth top as polish!
