Title: Rear window electric defogger

Does anyone know where and how to connect the electric rear window defogger? The hardtop on our 230 SL has nearly invisible electric rear defogger wires in the rear window, but we can't find out where and how to connect it. Should there be a contact breaker on the dash board or how does it function?

Hi, Finn,

I believe that you must have a 280SL hardtop.  I believe that a heated rear window was only an option on those cars (not the 230SLs).

In photo 22 at this eBay auction, you can see a knob in the center console tray just aft of the ashtray.  That is the knob for the defogger.

on my 280SL the wire from the hard top connects just behind the driver's seat, there is a wire that runs up fro the floor inside a flap.  The control for it is just behind the ashtray.
