Title: Automatic Transmission Filter???
Post by: bpossel on October 15, 2005, 18:22:59
:) Today I changed my automatic transmission fluid for the 1st time.  Have owned the 113 for 1.5 years and this is the last fluid that I have not changed.

[:0]I was very surprised at the filter that I removed while doing the service today.  Look at the attached picture.  On the right is the new Mann filter, along with its box.  On the left is the filter that I removed.  Actually, it doesnt look like a filter, rather just a fine mesh screen?

Has anyone ever seen this type of filter before?  I know that the previous owner had the trans rebuilt.  Is this a pre-filter, similar to a new engine filter?  Maybe one that is used with a rebuilt trans?

Comments appreciated...

Thanks,
Bob

Wow, those are different!

Have you flushed your power steering fluid?  I would like to do that this winter.
