Nixcolley,
Cees in Amsterdam used these folks quite successfully to ship an engine from the USA back to the Netherlands. I used them repeatedly for import and export over the years.

That being said, if they can't help you, they will be able to point you to a reputable agent who can.

If you happen by WH Smiths.... pick up one of the classic car magazines - or Merc enthusiast
Silchester garage will advertise and an outfit that (IIRC) is based in Gloucstershire
The latter, in particular, advertise left hand drive cars. As you're importing I assume you are looking at a leftie (either for re-export or simply on the basis of cost). Someone else may have already done the import work for you
Failing that, they pop up intermittently on ebay uk and if you (or someone else) are willing to travel and do more than kick some tyres, you could save a load of hassle
This one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SL280-Pagoda-1970-EX-California-car-hard-soft-top_W0QQitemZ4580248271QQcategoryZ31360QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem happens to be in Goucester. I wonder if there's a connection ;)

There's also likely to be someone advertising in a magazine for import services...
