Here are a few pics of the former 1966 230SL I stripped and sent off to the big junkyard up in the sky. Check out the extent of the rust attacks and the unique perspective of the cross cut sections of the dashboard and firewall.

Walter,
gnarly but fascinating! Thanks for posting these. Not often does one get to see inside the innards.

I agree with George, thanks for sharing. Would this have been the ultimate project car????

Johnny,
The ultimate project car? Well, I was thinking of fixing it, but then changed after looking over the entire car. There was rust in places I would never though of looking. This one came from NYC and the salt from the many winters had taken it's toll, not to mention the presence of multiple theft deterrent systems installed. When has one come across a car with not one, not two but three different anti-theft devices?
The car was simply abandoned from too many butchering jobs in the engine bay and rust repairs. Even I tried to get it going, but the started had failed right after it spun a few times with gas squirted down the intake pipes. Oh well...but most of it's parts still live on in other cars.

did you put the vin-tag on the grave stone?

Heehee Bob.
Well the Vin tag is resting apropriately with the others that I have collected over the years.
Is there a graveyard site reserved for the deceased W113SL's?

No, but you could add them on our Registry and note them as DEAD.

You mean to list all of the cars that I have the tags from as dead? Think I have 12 or so. Most of them are 230SL's and then 280SL's and one 250SL
I think everyone would run from me with their SL to avoid having me put my bad touch on it and having it end up in the junkyard.
Just kidding, I'll take a look at the list.

Yes. Of course, only if they really are dead, crushed, or otherwise "gone". It may be just me, but I think a "registry" should be trying to track all cars. If they've been sent to the big service station in the sky, then let it be noted.

I think those autopsy photos were very interesting, especially the firewall pics.
