Post by: hauser on August 31, 2005, 21:56:16
I thought this might make for an intresting discussion.

If someone is keeping track of vin #'s there are three listed on this auction and an incomplete fourth.

I saw those cars years ago. They were once owned by the late Jerry Brown, a local Mercedes mechanic and the eccentric owner of the "Benz Farm." He passed away around 2002 and his cars went to auction along with years of parts. The story I was told about that 280 SL with the red hardtop was that it was owned by the amabassador to the US from Iran. It was vandalized (dented all over) during the hostage crisis back in the 70s.

I saw those cars this past Sunday.  They are pretty scary.  But there are definitely a couple of salvagable parts there.  Doug, that neutral safety switch you're looking for is on that 280sl.

The same set of cars is the topic of another thread too. -CTH
