Title: Door latch not releasing with interior door release handle
Post by: Merc_Girl on October 06, 2025, 21:15:48
Hiya everyone

So, whilst Bessie did very well in her 750mile round trip to Wales, she did decided she didn’t want me to leave the driving seat, by refusing to let me out!

I’ve taken the door trim off and had a good ferret around, even taking the lock off to see if there was anything obvious. I couldn’t find anything, but gave everything a good dose of lubricant.

For reference, Bessie is an early 230 (1963/64), I believe the lock design changed over time?

I can’t seem to find anything means to adjust the ‘throw’, ie handle fully pulled back but the ‘effect’ by the lock results in little movement. One of the retaining rubber things is missing on the connecting rod, so as a temporary measure I put a cable tie on. Although this made the issue a little better, I hasn’t resolved the problem. I should also add that when the handle is pulled back, it doesn’t flip the cam up to unlock the door if locked on the inside, whereas is does on the passenger door.

Just wondering if anyone else has something similar and what was the solution. I was hoping one could just purchase the small moving parts, as they are probably worn, but it seems you have to buy the whole locking mechanism.

Any suggestions

Best
Katie
