Title: Spare keys
Post by: pathijm on October 03, 2025, 08:20:25
I would like to get a spare set of the 3 different keys I have for my 1968 280 SL. I am based in Europe/the Netherlands. Thanks!

You must have the code number on the data MB card.
I did that dome months ago with succes at a locksmith.
He take the blank and grinded it as it was already used on the car with some 0.1 mm metal grinded
👍

I sent my data card and ownership info to Mercedes Classic Center and received a full set of keys.  Of course, I ordered through the Classic center in California, but I would think you can do the same with classic center in Germany, not sure.    All docs were sent via email.

May I ask - was it for 280SL or 250SL? What spare part number was it? And when did it happen?

Ordered and received keys for 250 & 280.  It was about 10 years ago.  Have no idea about spare part number, I just gave my data cards and they figured it out.  I just said full set.

Ok, 10 years ago, that explains it, thank you. 10 years ago I ordered gas filler cap with lock as per my data card for $170 at the dealer. Good old days...

Here is a post from 3 years ago, where op ordered keys from classic center.  There is also link to a website in Australia that makes classic keys.

Ordering keys via Classic Center has been discussed before. For a quicker solution, buy original W113 key blanks on eBay (search for “Mercedes W113 key blank,” “Pagoda 280 SL key blank,” or “Huf/Neiman key blank”) and have them cut by a local locksmith in the Netherlands. Most can copy from your original keys or cut to the lock if you bring the car.
