This is the way I found my 250 SL on a supermarket parking in the summer of last year in a holiday area, on the Atlantic coast in France.
The parking neighbourg did not pull his parking break hard enough and his car ended gently on mine with the slight slope. No damage on my car, just a very light scratch on the paint, and i made no fuss since the restoration of the car was already planned.

Lucky it didn't happen after your restoration!
I was parked on a hill once, not in the Pagoda luckily, still sitting in my car, and the car behind rolled into mine. I had to wait until the owner returned, if i'd driven off, his car would have rolled off down the hill. When he returned, he said his handbrake was fine, and inferred that i'd reversed into him!

You could have made a bigger stink about it, and gotten him to subsidize the restoration. :)

In France, isn’t “parking by touch” almost a national sport? 😉

SEB, you're right, the Frenchs invented the parking by touch (and sound) long before parking radars were offered as extras by car manufacturers, but usually it's only front and back, not sideway!

True! By the way, since we both have a 250 SL, if you ever need help with parts or sourcing, let me know — in Germany the market is much bigger.

good to know! Thanks
