Hello Darryl,
These injection pumps must be installed on a test bench to be metered and calibrated. These calibrations are done at different rpms, water temperature settings, different and linkage setting. Some parts are machined in millionths of an inch! Rebuilding one of these injection pumps successfully, definately takes an enormous amount of sophisticated expensive equipment. The cost of many new "hard Parts" could be staggering. Precise settings and detailed information is normally not easily available. As a result there is no demand for rebuild kits from owners and independant repair shops.
If you know a good Bosch distributor person he may be able to help you with soft parts (gaskets and seals). Mercedes may even be able to help with some gaskets and seals.
As far as re-building the unit yourself, nearly impossible.
Sending it off to a injection pump rebuilding business is the most logical choice for most owners and repair shops.
Keep us informed if you have any success! Good luck.

Darryl,
What Joe was trying to say in the kindest possible way, is DON'T EVEN TRY. Even when new, the dealers NEVER touched the pumps, all the books say leave it alone so you would be wise to take 35 years of advice!
That being said doesn't get your pump rebuilt. For that go to H&R Fuel Injection (Bohemia, NY) or Pacific Fuel Exchange in S. San Francisco. They'll either rebuild or exchange for you. Simple, quick and painless, but make sure you understand that you are looking at somewhere between $750-$1,000.

I just had my IP rebuilt by Hans at H&R, two weeks ago. He did a marvelous job. He will insist on you sending the IP, CSV, and the injectors to be sure that all is as prescribed. I happened to have 2 injectors that were new style (R2) that conflicted with my 4 old style (R1) injectors. He even found me 2 R1 injectors that worked!
What a difference a rebuild does. I give H&R my full confidence. If you're East of the Rockies, he would be a good source.

Thanks for the advice I spoke to a friend of mine who owns his own Mercedes repair shop and he mirrored your advice. The pump will be on its way to be rebuilt. Thanks Darryl
