Title: Original gas cap maintenance
Post by: rwmastel on July 26, 2025, 11:39:12
After seeing Len have a gas cap failure (https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=39613.0), and knowing the cost of replacements, I was wondering if there is any "maintenance" that can be performed to extend the life of original gas caps.

Can we agree on what type of lubricant, if any, should be put in the key hole?

Should anything else be lubricated?

Can we agree on how often to replace the gasket with original type material?

Is that little spring replaceable?

Your thoughts?

the recent posts reminded me to lubricate the gas cap on my 66.

1. Sprayed "super lube" synthetic on the inner workings
2.  applied a thin layer of "syl glide" to the rubber gasket

key turns super smooth and the cap rotates very easily.

the super lube is a spray, using the supplied tube i inserted the tube in any gaps and sprayed.
