Title: Total Kilometers on my Euro 230sl.
Post by: Jacks1965230sl on July 21, 2025, 06:57:18
I bought a 1965 230sl “barn find” earlier this year, which had not been run for 30 years. It’s a Euro model with the speedometer in kph. The total on the odometer shows 73,383.  Up til yesterday, I was not thinking about it much, as I was focused on the restoration, and my mind assumed it was just the total miles.  Then it dawned on me yesterday that it was actually shown as the total kilometers.  Which means it’s about 45,598 miles. Hope this is correct, but then thought that it could actually be 173,383 kilometers. Which is over 107k miles. Not sure which it is due to the odo being only 5digits. Anyone with any clues to look for in determining the true mileage?

Service or other documentation may provide a clue.

Degree of wear of other car components.

Some are worn just by time, some due to usage.

It could as well be “2” in front of the mileage.

I do not suppose it matters that much if the car is fully restored.

Thank you for the fast response.   Here is a photo of the original gas and brake pedal. Would you think it has rolled over once, based on the wear?

Based on that wear I’d say probably yes.
Another place to look is the tex on top of the driver door panel. Mine is worn smooth there, I guess because it was the driver’s arm rest.
And the seats, especially the driver side outer bolsters.

Yes.  You can search for this very topic and see other original gas pedal examples.
