Title: Muffler Archeology
Post by: lurtch on May 19, 2025, 20:35:54
Hello All - - -

I am in the middle of replacing my muffler. A simple job and I have a small TIG welder to stitch it in place.

What I found very interesting is the embossing on the old unit (see photo).

This blew my mind: Could this be the factory-installed muffler?

I think Eberspaecher and Gilett were the factory brands but would MB have known, at the time your car was made, they’d be making a future 280SL?

I wonder if the original mufflers are available, I only see reproductions advertised. Did you get one already?

No, not mufflers. Just front pipes (early and late) and rear pipes are available, not mufflers.
