Having removed several kilos of wires and electrical equipment associated with a redundant alarm system, I fear my exuberance may have gone too far.
One end of the red wire in the photo is, and was, attached to the positive battery terminal. The other end was found behind the firewall, not connected to anything.
What is this wire for? Is it part of the old security system, or should it be connected to something under the dash?
Help would be much appreciated.

I would hazard a guess it was a constant feed for a radio.
There’s not much that’s electrical behind the dash.

Aftermarket addition, not original.

Any positive wire feed from the battery is not factory. Only to the starter and alternator get positive feeds from battery.
The rest from the alternator or fuse box. (If memory serves me right)
This black/red wire from the battery with a prong/blade fuse is aftermarket.
I would remove it.
Also fix the connection at the battery terminal end, too much exposed copper wire.

It is, apparently, fused permanent power source for something. Could be a radio (someone did not know where to look for radio power supply in a Pagoda) or could be some other device that is no longer there.
If I were to take power for something additional, I would take it from fuse box, lead it out through a grommet to auxiliary fuse box under bonnet (with proper label to describe what it is) and then to wherever I need it. This way you do not load factory fuses with additional equipment and you have easy and organized access to fuse (but I am not a mechanic, so my solution may not be the best one).
