Title: Omega 690 oil in rear axle
Post by: lagolag on April 10, 2025, 13:43:43
Now that I have installed my newly renovated gearbox which is now completely silent,
I hear whining noises from the rear axle which mainly occur during acceleration and
have spoken to other owners of cars with the same type of rear axle about how to make
the rear axle quiet and it requires a complete renovation but I also received a recommendation
to use thick oil such as Omega 690 SAE 85-145 (also named Omicron).

I can hardly be alone with whining noises from the rear axle so I wonder how you in our forum have tackled this problem?

Looking forward to hearing your experiences.

Regards Lars

I had a noisy rear axle and I replaced my rear differential oil with Redline Synthetic 75W140 and almost eliminated the noise. Slight noise on deceleration now but I can live with it.

Do not use SAE140, this is not correct, the lubrication suffers from too high SAE grade. If you fill pure grease, the noise wil be less, but the liftetime of the gear drive, too.  Try a synthetic lubricant, for example Mobilgear SHC 75W90 with approval for hypiod gear drive.
