Hi all, looking for some advice here. My car is a 1969 ex US 280 SL. I have two unused water pump pulleys, and one (middle) unused crank pully with a fitted fan shroud.
Did 1969 cars come A/C prepared or has my car had the A/C removed? I can not see any sighs that it once was fitted though. Thanks.

Where is your alternator mounted? Picture? When most people remove AC, they do not go to the effort of relocating the alternator to the non-ac position.

Hi picture as requested. thanks.

My thoughts were the a/c was removed. The US spec Pagodas did not come to US with a/c fitted from MB. They were fitted at US dealerships. Check your engine compartment rear bulkhead for holes on the passenger side. This would be where the hoses would pass thru the bulkhead to the a/c unit. As for the pulleys, they were added when the a/c were installed, and possibly the radiator shroud too. Also when removing a/c most would not change pulleys back to stock pulleys. Note reasons for removing a/c s was because the a/c refrigerants in use in 1970s were ban and newer refrigerants replaced them and were not compatible with older a/c s, so people oust stopped using them. However those older a/c s can be upgraded to Handel the new refrigerants.

I can not see any hose holes in the bulkhead, and I pretty sure it has the original pad. Making me think my 1969 car came A/C prepared from the factory. I thought only late cars came A/C prepared, but was unsure if 1969 cars did.

A/C did not come on cars from factory. It was dealer installed. Now maybe the ordering dealer order the car prepped for A/C installation, meaning pulleys were installed at factory and alternator placement made. Therefore only the a/c unit itself would installed at dealership. When these cars were being imported, MB was requested to install automatic transmissions and whitewall tires, and dealer added a/c

Thanks. My car does have automatic transmission and white wall tyres from new,
