Title: Reverse band adjustment
Post by: Lori on March 02, 2025, 20:15:31
About 2 weeks ago, my car had a little shudder in reverse and then it gave out altogether.  Shifting tor reverse raised the rpm quite a bit and the car will not move when accelerator is pressed.  I found info in the tech manual on adjusting the reverse band bolt.  The 22mm nut loosened easily but I cannot get the 10mm bolt to move in either direction.  It seems someone has adjusted it before as the bolt is somewhat rounded.
Does this bolt seem to be out way too far and any suggestions that hopefully don't require draining the transmission fluid that I just recently changed.

See if you can get a good 6 point box end wrench or a 6 point socket on it and try to loosen it first. Spray it down with penetrant be fore screwing it back it for adjustment. You probably do not have to take it all the way out.

In my experience you're going to need to rebuild the transmission.

"In my experience you're going to need to rebuild the transmission."  Possibly so Stick. Still good to check the easy and least expensive things first. If the adjustment doesn't work remove the transmission pan to see if you have any parts or debris in the pan.

I drained the fluid and removed the pan and dipstick/fill tube.  No debris in the pan.  But the bolt will not move in either direction.  I am scheduling professional help to look at and probably remove the trans for rebuild.

Pedro @Mobil.Werks (also a fellow pagoda group member) came over and got the reverse band bolt removed.  It had a lot of corrosion in the threads.  He found a replacement and installed it today and I am back in business!  NO REBUILD NEEDED - WHOO HOO!!

That is really good news

I'm sure many automatic owners were hoping it wasn't too serious
