Title: body and interior restoration in Tri-States NY NJ CT area

Hi,

needing to restore the interior and repaint the exterior on my 1968 280SL.

would appreciate recommended shops in the Tri-States Area NY, NJ, CT.

You might try Ken Aucone in Wall Township, NJ. 609-304-3565. He's worked on all my cars and has years of experience with Mercedes.

You might try Automotive Restorations Inc, in Stratford, Connecticut.  Www.automotiverestorations.com

Unfortunately I don’t think it will be easy to find anyone that will have both the expertise and the capacity to turn the job around before summer.  Hopefully I’m wrong!

You'd be better off planning it further in advance so as to have it ready for summer 2026.

Dean, I would suggest you order the the interior kits (leather or MB Tex), this would include the door panels and seat back panels. Then order the carpeting. Have all this on hand so that when you find someone to do the job, they would not have to be wait on materials. Paint, well that could be a problem too depending on what color and if you want to go original German paint. Unfortunately, these two jobs can’t be done simultaneously.

Although not a shop that only works on vintage Mercedes you need to visit and walk through the shop to realize this place is special.
He has worked on my current vehicles as well as my 1967 230SL.
Their level of craftsmanship is unsurpassed in this area.
It is well worth the visit.
