Title: Help and informations request
Post by: Mario on November 12, 2024, 18:06:10
My name is Mario LE CORRE.
I live in Burgundy, France.  I'm 65 years old, married, three daughters and three granddaughter, and i'm in retirement for three years now.

I found a mercedes 230SL with a VIN number 113 042 10 007677 in a very good shape. (see pictures)

The price is quite low, less than 30k€, and i'm suspicius!!!

It is too good to be true.

The vendor is located in a Canaria island (Spain).

Car documents are from Germany but the vendor don't want to send me a copie before a deal!!.

So, with the VIN Number, is it possible to found some informations about the car ans its origin?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Best regards.

Mario.

Car look great and price sounds good. Hard for you to view this car being it is in Spain. Get lots of photos at least. Good luck.

No, not really, even assuming it is a true VIN of this car. Ask for a lot of pictures, including pictures of underneath areas, VIN number, number stamped on the hood, paint code plate and VIN plate (if too new, I would be suspicious).

But I would not buy based on pictures only.

If you are looking for a Pagoda, Become a Full Member here, look through the buyer's guide, go there with someone who knows fair deal about cars and check it out. Check if the VIN is original and not tampered with, check for rust if there are reasons to believe the car is genuine.

I quick rough check may be if you get to see the data card (have you asked if they have datacard?) and paint number plate is to check if options and colors are matching (unless, of course, altered).

I would not buy based on pictures.

Make appointment, ask for the car to be cold when you arrive to see it (to check for oil leaks where she stands and for engine work from the moment it is cold) and take it from there.

I am a bit suspicious as they do not want to share the documents with you. I do not get why would they not do it.

Mario,

Be extra careful. Why would any legitimate seller not send a copy of any ownership docs?  He could block out any info.

This may be legitimate, but it could very well be a scam.  If it’s a scam, often, the photos are pulled from someone else’s advertisement.

Ask for a live video call (FaceTime, etc) showing the car and walk around details and showing seller on camera.  If it’s real, they will agree, if scam, there will be excuses why they cannot. If they show you the car and themselves, make the trip to see it and the paperwork.

They may ask for a deposit … and then disappear.

I would be extra extra careful.

Hi,
the outside mirror does not look like a German version, more like a French one.

Hello
Finally the seller sent me the German documents of the car.
Do you think they are real?
I am surprised by the date of first registration of 22.03.1966! For me, compared to the serial number 007677, it was a production of 1964!!

He also sent me a document about his company based in Tenerife in the Canary Islands. Auto RAS SL.
Oddly enough, at the address indicated, there is no car shop!
While the company has a beautiful website with images of a very beautiful building.
Furthermore, this pdf document is a fake, under the text, when you copy and paste, there is still the trace of the original document which concerns another company based in Spain in Palau de Plegamans.

Now, in his last email, he asks me when I come there to see the vehicle.
Honestly, I don't know what to think!
But, I'll let it go.

Thank you very much for your messages and help.
Mario

Well, hard to say anything about the documents as we cannot see the documents.

Registration in 1966 vs. assumed production in 1964 - nothing unusual.

If he encourages you to com and see the car - that is a good sign, actually.

Have you asked for more pictures?

Hi,
At first glance, the German admission documents look okay. Only the address of the owner Johannes Knöll is worthy of me. Behind it is a company "Bastian Voigt Collectors Cars GmbH"and there vehicles are parked in front of the garages like in your picture. I would ask there: E-Mail: info@bastianvoigt.de, www.bastianvoigt.de.

To be honest, with the price what it is, it seems too good to be true, unless it is riddled with cancer or it's been fenced or something.

Hello everybody,

To conclude this small story, at the end the car documents was fake, an old version for this car with a new name.

The compagny documents was fake also.
Thank you at WRe for this german vendor, he confirm me that this car was sell and was not at 30k€ but at about 100k€.
