Title: success - heater core valve o ring change
Post by: merrill on July 31, 2005, 16:35:42
well, after reading all the posts regarding how to change the o ring for my heater core valve I tackled the job today.
Luckily my valve opened and closed easily so I was able to just pull the core out.
Installed the valve with a new o ring from K & K no sweat.

once I get the car running I will be able to verify the valve function.

thanks to all the insight from the folks that have made posts to the forum regarding this procedure.

Congrats!  Please make sure you put the valve back in correctly so that it functions properly when the lever is in the open and closed position.

you could connect a garden hose to it and test it cold.

Did you lubricate the o-ring with something high temp?

Bob,
I thought about the garden hose idea.

No I did not lube the o-ring,  Any suggestions?

I used some hi-temp grease but you could use some other sticky grease, check the temp range and how it is affected by water.
You don't need much.

The cold water is easier to manage because you can actually see the valve working. You can't if it is all re-connected.
