I have MB Tex interior; does that mean the upper dash and lower dash are MB Tex too? The upper dash mat'l looks completely different?

Interiors were either entirely Tex or entirely leather. That includes the inner a-posts, upper and lower dashboard pieces, glovebox, door panels, kick panels, rear side panels, tonneau cover and, of course, the seats themselves.

What you will find in a leather interior is that the padded dash pieces are leather OVER the 'Tex. What COLOR 'Tex might be a mystery, but that's what I've seen.
What that means is, if you changed from 'Tex to leather, places like GAHH will cover the padded dash 'Tex pieces with leather; if you have leather and are changing it, the old leather can/will be peeled off revealing 'Tex, and then can be recovered.
In a nutshell, even a leather interior has 'Tex hiding underneath some pieces!

The newer MB-Tex that our suppliers supply seems to be slightly different than the original. It has a little more of a grainy look to it. My lower dash MB Tx is original and much smoother -- upper is redone and more textured.

I have the same situation; top is grainier and has more of a leather look, bottom is smooth. I have cracks on the bottom section, especially on glove box; any idea of costs to recover?

No real idea. The material can be located through our suppliers, (if they will sell you a fairly small amount -- not sure). You could then take lower dash panels off and into an uphols. shop with the material in hand...They would be able to recover these easily, I would think, using old pieces as a template.
